A roll-off dumpster is an open-top steel container that a truck delivers by rolling it off its rails onto the ground. No lid, low walls, and one end that swings open like a door. You fill it on your own schedule and call when you want it gone.

Because of how it lands. The truck backs into position, raises its bed until the rails tilt, and the dumpster rolls down onto its own wheels. Picking it up runs the same way in reverse: a cable winches the loaded dumpster back up the rails. Nothing gets lifted over the side of the truck, which is what a front-load container needs.
That mechanism decides where the dumpster can go. The truck needs a straight approach and roughly 60 feet of clear run to set one down without a fight, plus overhead room for the raised rails. It's the reason we ask about the driveway before delivery day rather than after.
When somebody says "dumpster," they usually mean one of two things, and they're not interchangeable.
| Roll-off | Front-load | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Open top, no lid | Enclosed, hinged lid |
| Sizes | 10 to 40 cubic yards | 2 to 8 cubic yards |
| How long it stays | Days or weeks, for one job | Permanently, on a route |
| Who uses it | Homeowners, remodels, contractors | Restaurants, apartments, retail |
| How it's emptied | Hauled off, contents and all | Emptied on site, put back |
If you're cleaning out a house, tearing off a roof, or running a remodel, the roll-off is the one you want. A front-load is a waste service you subscribe to, not a container you rent for a weekend.
Sizes are measured in cubic yards of volume, and we run five of them out of the Delta yard:
The walls on the 10 through 20 are four feet, which matters more than the yardage on a job where everything gets thrown in by hand. Between two sizes, the smaller dumpster is usually right for heavy material and the larger one for bulk.
What Size Dumpster Do I Need?Less than most people expect. You pick a size and a delivery day, we agree on where the dumpster goes, and the truck brings it. The rental runs 10 days at a flat rate, and extra days are available if the job runs long. When you're finished, you call and we haul it off.
Nothing needs sorting or bagging. Load it however it fits, keep the material under the top rail so it can travel legally, and leave the short prohibited list out of it.
How Dumpster Rental WorksAn open-top steel container, rectangular, with no lid and one end that swings open as a door. It arrives on a truck that tilts its bed and rolls the dumpster down onto the ground, which is where the name comes from. You fill it at your own pace, call when you're done, and the same truck winches it back up and hauls it away.
Most people picture a front-load dumpster: the enclosed container with a lid behind a restaurant or apartment block. That one stays put and gets emptied on a route. A roll-off is temporary and project-sized. It comes for your job, sits where you put it, and leaves full. Open top, low walls, and sizes from 10 to 40 cubic yards.
The same thing as a roll-off dumpster. Container is the word the waste industry uses and dumpster is the word everybody else uses, and on a quote from us they mean one open-top steel dumpster delivered on a roll-off truck. If you call and ask for a 20 yard container, nobody here will correct you.
It describes how the container is delivered. The truck backs in, raises its rails, and the dumpster rolls off on its own wheels rather than being lifted over the side. That's also why placement matters: the truck needs a straight run in and out, and about 60 feet of clearance to set a dumpster down cleanly.
Renting the container for a set window instead of buying disposal by the bag. Our rentals run 10 days at one flat rate by size, from $315 for the 10 yard to $620 for the 40. Delivery, pickup, and disposal up to the weight allowance are in that number.
You pick a size, we agree on where it goes, and the truck delivers it. You load it over the low walls or through the swing door at the back. When the job is finished you call, and we pick it up and take it to the landfill. Nothing has to be sorted or bagged; the prohibited list is short and mostly hazardous material.
